NEW ZEALAND

KIA ORA (Hello) from TAKAPUNA!!

Our South Pacific adventure has begun and we have arrived in New Zealand. Our new home for the next few years is going to be in
TAKAPUNA!
It is located about fifteen minutes across the bridge to the North Shore from
AUCKLAND!
So we are living on the 'Shore' once again!
Takapuna is a coastal suburb of Auckland located on the North Island of New Zealand. It is on a peninsula forming the Waitemata Harbour.
Waitemata Harbour is the main access by sea to Auckland.
The name is from the Māori language - Wai te Mataa referring to 'obsidian glass'. The 'sparkling waters' (a later translation) of the harbour, were said to glint like the volcanic glass prized by the early explorers
.

THE BEACH AT TAKAPUNA

When the tide is out, the sand is firm enough
to walk, run, push a stroller or ride a bike!

In the background you see
RANGITOT0 ISLAND
It is a volcanic island.
Rangitoto is Māori for
'Bloody Sky'
relating to a major Māori battle at Islington Bay about 1350.

JUST A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN!!!
'HEI KONA MAI'
(Bye for now!)
